the secret garden

I think I just found my own little winter wonderland, and it's called Wallenstein Palace and Gardens. Such a beautiful, breathtaking place. Great for long walks. (The "cave" wall in the last picture is artificially created, but isn't it magnificent?)

PS: I leave for my fall break tomorrow night! See you in 10 days?

lovely tote bags

A strap on my beloved Alphabet Bag broke last weekend, while I was in Budapest. (Speaking of which, I just posted pictures and videos!) I'm planning on sewing it back together, but I'm also so tempted by these new fall arrivals that just popped up in my inbox this morning. I'm such a fan of this little UK company, run by a very sweet couple. Maybe I might just get another one? You know, supporting small businesses and all. :)

winter meals

Sometimes I feel like such an animal.

No, not in that way! I like to hibernate. I'm so afraid of the cold -- my fingers freeze, my nose trickles (gross!) -- that all I want to do in the winter time is stay inside, turn up the heat, and curl up on a nice, fluffy couch. Also, I always, always crave soup in chilly weather. My favorite here in Prague is a creamy potato soup with bacon bits. Yes, bacon bits! Oh how you make my stomach warm and happy, bacon! What do you love to eat in the wintertime?

simple and yet...

Absolutely breathtaking. This crossbody Tod's tote with its creamy leather is just divine (and so utilitarian!).

beauty sleep

Midterms were this week (and continue on next week), and I've been feeling really exhausted. Prepping for exams, researching summer internships, traveling, and applying for some special classes next semester definitely make for a tired Helen. I think I need to catch up on some beauty sleep, stat. Some inspiration:

the glamourai

The Glamourai might just be the fiercest fashionista I've seen in a while. Her blog is full of cool pictures and equally cool looks. And I love that self-confidence! Just the name, "the Glamourai," is totally girl-crush worthy in itself. And that leather jacket, ohhh my goodness! I need it, I really do!

bona drag fall picks

hellooo jacket, skirt, and dress!

These new fall arrivals from online boutique Bona Drag just popped in my email inbox! That little wool jacket is to die for (scallop details!). I've had some great shopping experiences with Bona Drag. I bought these fierce heels from them a year ago ('cause you know I really, really like shoes). I also found this awesome motorcycle jacket, but unfortunately I had to return it because it didn't fit me well. Everything came in a box of crinkled magazine papers with a cute mixed CD. And Heather is just the nicest lady. Bona Drag, you rock! (And your clothes are pretty...)

vertumnus

Vertumnus by Guiseppe Arcimboldo

We're learning Renaissance and Mannerist art in my Art & Architecture class, and I just had to share this incredibly innovative portrait of Emperor Rudolph II (of the Habsburgs, who, did you know, ruled Prague in the 1500's?). Perfect for October, as autumn (sadly) succumbs to winter. Temperatures are in the low 40's this week with lots of chilly winds -- I'm afraid to leave my room! Hope you are all staying warm. :)

a wrist's best friend

My watch broke a few months ago, and I've been looking and looking for a replacement ever since. These pieces from Urban Outfitters are fantastic, don't you think? I love the La Mer Oversized Vintage style as much as the quirky Snake Bangle Watch (priced at only $28!). Which is your favorite?

the girls from machova

there is something beautiful
about the fragile & young, the secretly
emotionally-kept by current
next-best-things, living for slow months
of when and just-because, looking
miserable in the grocery store, thinking
in bunkbeds while misavoiding love, and

the girls from machova are beautiful,
but they fall from chairs, they're so
bird-heartedly fragile but beautiful,
almost as beautiful as when they
stand up, step up from the ground.

sweet packaging

These Chocolove Organic chocolate bars look so sweet, on the inside and the outside. Psst... you can find them at Whole Foods!

PS: I had my first American cheesecake in Prague today!

floor length gowns (in the daytime!)

Would you wear them? They seem to be all the rage now. How brave, don't you think? I might with some killer platform heels!

flowers as food!

Doesn't this just make you smile? (Via Happy Lady Eats)

souvenirs and things

I have the toughest time buying souvenirs for people. Mostly because I'm so picky and want every gift to be just right for the recipient. Lately I've been seeing these sweet little tin cups everywhere in Prague! They're a little childish, but we all have a bit of "kid" in us, right? (Or maybe only my 12-yr-old sister will like them...) What do you think? (Photo from here)

danke schön berlin!

My friend Lisa and I visited Berlin this weekend and had such a fun time! I loved exploring museums, eating delicious food (doner kebaps, currywurst, apple strudel!), and seeing all the interesting landmarks. You can read more about my trip here!

sad news today

photo via Cup of Jo, from Cookie Mag

Condé Nast Publications announced today the closures of Gourmet, Cookie, Modern Bride and Elegant Bride magazines (via WWD). This is so sad for the many people who found inspiration between their pages. Not to mention the now-unemployed staff! I will especially miss all the pretty decor pictures and yummy food photos from Cookie and Gourmet. Sigh.

the white shirt

I have about four, and have enthusiastically incorporated them into my go-to "uniform." I just love the way I feel with a crisp shirt and some shades: fresh, professional, and classic. And they go with practically everything! (Photo by The Sartorialist.)

PS: I spent the weekend in Berlin, thus the lack of recent posts! Will update on the trip soon. xoxo
